Accessibility
Built for one hand, and for everyone.
OliType started as a way to write with one hand. Accessibility isn't a feature we added later; it's the reason the app exists.
In the app
- One key does everything. The default hotkey is a double-tap of Left Option, one key at the bottom-left of your keyboard. Typing with your right hand? Pick Right Option or any key you can reach. Single tap, hold-to-talk, and tap-or-hold modes are one click away.
- Any key, mouse button, or foot pedal can be your hotkey. Press it once in the hotkey box to set it.
- Mouse-only use: a floating Dictate button and the menu bar icon start, stop, and cancel dictation, and clicking them never takes you out of the app you're typing in.
- VoiceOver, the Mac's built-in screen reader, announces "Listening," "Writing it down," and then "Typed" or "Copied to clipboard," and reads out any message OliType shows.
- Sound cues play when listening starts and stops, so you know without looking. Five styles, or off.
- Larger text in Help: from 70% to 250%. Use the text size buttons, or hold Command and press plus or minus; Command and zero resets it.
- Using Sticky Keys? Sticky Keys may lock a modifier key like Option when you press it twice, so pick a key that isn't a modifier (such as F5) or use hold-to-talk.
- Forgiving: a single Esc cancels without typing, and Restore brings a cancelled dictation back for a day.
- Plain language throughout, with an explanation under every setting.
On this website
- A "Skip to main content" link, real headings and landmarks, and a visible focus ring on everything you can reach with Tab.
- Text and controls meet WCAG 2.2 AA color contrast in both light and dark mode.
- Animations stop when your Mac is set to Reduce motion.
- Pages work when zoomed to 200% and on a phone-width screen.
